La Loba: Wolf Woman

My representation of the southwestern, folkloric figure, La Loba. Her tail varies slightly between communities & cultures, but a few things ring true…she inhabits the desert, a wight roaming the canyons in search of bones - the bones of animals, yes, especially the Wolf. La Loba then returns to her cave dwelling where she reassembles the animals & sings her song over their skeletons by crackling firelight. By pyromancy & ritual song, the skeletons take shape & fill out…eventually the animals are fully reborn to a life of freedom where they will join La Loba, roaming unfettered, howling & calling out to the dessert moon.

La Loba is show nestled among the desert rose, lupine flowers, & the sweet bones of her soon-to-be desert companions.
