Pomegranates & Rue Tarot/Altar Cloth

$40.00

Original artwork inspired by the convergence of aspects of my lineage, art & practice: my own divinatory techniques including tarot & a deck of Persian poet Hafez, the rich importance of the pomegranate in my cuisine and culture along with the rue traditionally burned for cleansing and protection, Persian tapestries meets Art Nouveau…all of this intersected in my dreams as the Winter of 2025 approached - the darker days, longer nights and deep cold begging to be illuminated by fire, warmth, nourishment, & cartomancy. It was in these dreams that iconography around the archetypes of the Pomegranate Practitioner and the Fire Witch came into focus, and merged in this piece.

My design has a fiery sun at the center - ideal for the signifier card in a reading, representing the querent. In addition there are 4 young pomegranate flowers, 2 early pomegranates, 2 mature pomegranates, and 4 hands reaching out of fire for a total of 12 potential card positions surrounding the sun at varied layers of proximity and connectivity. Rue sprigs cradle the mature pomegranates, protecting the reading and those involved. I encourage you to interact with as many or few of the elements of the design to inspire readings, or simply enjoy the protection (rue), and sacred death/rebirth (pomegranate) motif for divination, altar or sacred space setting, ritual, fashion, etc.

This is one of the only pieces i outsourced production of, but my efforts to center environmental stewardship, conscientious consumerism, and equitable work systems remains. I sent my original art to Pennsylvania to be printed by a very small, family owned textile company who also favors eco-friendly practices, then had the fabric hand cut and hemmed by a skilled seamstress here on the south side of Chicago. Its wasn’t the cheapest method of production, but it’s the one i felt good about. Print is one-sided.
